DCC BHAA Race Report 2025 Irishtown 5K
Leafy balmy Dublin 4’s Sean Moore Park was the venue for a BHAA race that started in its original form in 2005 at Irishtown Stadium and Ringsend Park. So for twenty years except for the Covid hiatus, Dublin City Council runners continue to deliver two BHAA races annually. The 2025 version had a race course in Sean Moore Park and the Poolbeg peninsula with beautiful views of Dublin bay. Before the race, dark clouds threatened rain. However it t was pleasing to see 167 entrants line up and finish without a drop of rain.
At the business end of the race, Sean Doran a regular BHAA winner was challenged ever step by Matthew Kane who eventually got pole position and dipped under 16 minutes with Sean six second behind him. It is acknowledged that Sean may be disappointed at losing his winning streak in 2025. Congratulations and hats off to Sean for surely there is a lot of satisfaction for him winning the previous eight 2025 BHAA races!
Maura Kearns won the women’s race with thirty second to spare ahead of Ciara Regan.
The race featured a welcome dozen entrants from Bank of America. It should be acknowledged that Bank of Ireland continued to have runners and teams in this 5K and are regular BHAA supporters and race promoters.
First three men: Matthew Kane (Google), Sean Doran (Harrier Products) and Aidan Jones (ESB)
First three women: Maura Kearns (Teachers), Ciara Regan (no team), and Gemma Tracey (St Vincent’s hospital group). In addition to BHAA prizes the first three men and women received shoulder bags and goodies provided by Dublin.ie. Your guide to live, work, invest & study in Dublin
The indefatigable Susan Walsh provided the race commentary in her wonderful unique way. Mike Mc Govern (Crusaders/Irish Milers Club) helped at the finish.
BHAA folk said that it wonderful to see again the return of veteran BHAA stalwarts like the Teachers duo Sheelagh Jones, and Mary Jennings, and RTE duo Terry Clarke and Niall Matthews. After the race Crusaders club house was the venue for refreshments, prize-giving and usual DCC quiz. The many attractive quiz prizes for DCC concessions included: on street parking and DCC car-park tickets, golf, sports voucher to DCC sport centres. A good time was had by all.
Race promoter Enda Currid thanked his DCC team and other volunteers and BHAA’s Charlie and Hugh the key men in the background for set up and race equipment, and Frank and Kathleen for processing entries and results promptly.
